These yellow rudbeckia are veteran performers in our flower beds, reliably adding large swaths of golden yellow as a backdrop for other flowers — such as these almost-impossibly-crimson cardinal flowers. The base plant is rather innocuous and I sometimes I forget they are there…until their blooms open in late summer, then there is no mistaking them!
